$4,400 Level in Gold Maintained as US Inflation Data in Focus

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – Gold prices stayed above the $4,400 mark per ounce on Thursday, rebounding from an earlier dip in the previous trading session. As of 0419 GMT, spot gold increased by 0.3% to $4,414.28 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery edged down 0.1% to $4,457.20. The US dollar remained subdued during Asian market hours, supporting bullion priced in the US currency. Gold, which had approached the stronger levels seen late Wednesday after recovering from earlier losses, closed the session near these highs.

Gold steadies near $4,400 with US inflation in focus
Precious metals markets track U.S. inflation readings as gold trades near $4,400 an ounce.

The US 10-year Treasury yield stayed near 4.84%, maintaining investor focus on interest rate trends across financial markets. Since gold doesn’t generate interest, fluctuations in bond yields can impact its demand. Additionally, Brent crude stayed above $100 a barrel after crossing that threshold during Wednesday’s trading. Rising oil prices continued to keep inflation indicators under close review as traders prepared for upcoming US economic data releases. Movements in currency, bond yields, and inflation figures remained central to gold trading dynamics.

The US is scheduled to release producer price index figures at 1230 GMT on Thursday, followed by consumer inflation data on Friday. Both reports are expected to offer fresh insights into inflation pressures ahead of the Federal Reserve’s meetings on September 15 and 16. Currently, the Fed’s federal funds target range stands at 3.50% to 3.75%. According to CME Group’s FedWatch Tool, markets assign approximately a 60% chance of a rate hike this month. These upcoming economic reports continue to be the primary focus for precious metals traders.

Gold Surges Backward from Wednesday’s Early Drop

Thursday’s gold prices followed a broad trading range observed in the previous session. At 0040 GMT on Wednesday, spot gold had declined 0.1% to $4,349.44 an ounce. By 1744 GMT, the metal had rebounded 1.4% to $4,414.30. December U.S. gold futures also recovered, closing 0.5% higher at $4,458.80. This move ended a three-day decline for bullion and pushed spot prices back above the $4,400 level before the start of Thursday’s Asian market session.

The recent price movements highlighted a notable distinction between Wednesday’s early and late readings. Thursday’s spot gold price was roughly 1.5% higher than the early Wednesday level of $4,349.44. December futures stayed well above their earlier session high of $4,393.30. Expectations of upcoming Federal Reserve policy decisions kept interest rate outlooks prominent, alongside inflation data. Gold’s performance remained sensitive to the US dollar and Treasury yields, as investors evaluated the latest economic signals without any significant shifts in the broader market environment.

Mixed Trends Seen in Silver, Platinum, and Palladium

On Thursday, other precious metals experienced uneven trading after posting stronger gains in the previous session. Spot silver increased by 0.3% to $67.50 an ounce, whereas platinum declined by 0.4% to $1,888.05. Palladium gained 0.2%, reaching $1,356.20. During Wednesday’s session, silver rose 3.3% to $67.91, platinum advanced 5.1% to $1,906.20, and palladium increased 1.2% to $1,365.50, continuing the broader recovery trend across the metals complex.

Early Thursday trading saw gold remaining above $4,400, with silver staying above $67 per ounce. The US dollar, Treasury yields, and upcoming US inflation data continued to serve as primary reference points for the market. Producer inflation figures are scheduled for Thursday, followed by consumer inflation data on Friday. These releases precede the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting on September 15 and 16. For gold, most of Wednesday’s rebound was preserved in recent trading levels, maintaining close proximity to the previous session’s late gains.
