CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – The Central Bank of Egypt announced that Egypt’s net international reserves reached an all-time high of $57.2145 billion at the end of August 2026. The provisional figure was released on September 7, with reserves standing at $56.2939 billion at the end of July. The increase for the month was approximately $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This marks the first time Egypt’s official reserve holdings have surpassed $57 billion.

This August figure continues a consistent upward trend throughout 2026. Starting the year with reserves of $52.5938 billion in January, Egypt’s reserves grew to $52.7455 billion in February, then to $52.8306 billion in March. In April, reserves reached $53.0092 billion, and by May, they had increased to $53.1342 billion. As of August, reserves have risen by about $4.62 billion from January and approximately $5.76 billion from December 2025’s end.
The pace of growth gained momentum mid-year. Reserves increased from $53.1342 billion in May to $55.0723 billion in June, then further to $56.2939 billion in July, culminating in the August record. These three months contributed more than $4 billion to the reserve total. Compared to August 2025, the current reserves are roughly $7.96 billion higher, reflecting an annual growth rate of approximately 16.2%.
Remittances bolster foreign currency inflows
Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also achieved a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported these inflows at around $47.3 billion, up from approximately $36.5 billion in the prior fiscal year, representing an increase of 29.6%. In June alone, remittances totaled about $4.2 billion, which was 15.6% higher than the roughly $3.6 billion registered in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures cover the first nine months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During July through March, the overall balance recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account posted net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account showed a deficit of $14.6 billion. These data offer the most recent official view of Egypt’s external financial position before the August reserve update.
Continued monthly reserve records in 2026
Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve figures have reached successive nominal peaks. Reserves crossed $55 billion in June, then exceeded $56 billion in July, with August marking the first figure above $57 billion. The country has now reported three consecutive month-end reserve totals above $55 billion. The August reserve level is more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion registered at the end of December 2025.
These latest figures position Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest recorded level and continue an unbroken upward trend since the beginning of 2026. Every monthly reading from January through August was higher than the previous one. Although the August figure remains provisional according to the central bank’s reporting standards, the data clearly indicate a rising trend in Egypt’s reserve stock over the first eight months of the year.
